10 Ways that Exercise Videos TRUMP The GYM!
1. Great for lazy people.
I hate getting dressed, driving to the gym, changing clothes, bringing my shower gear, driving home…It’s all just too much effort. So when the weather is dreadful, I’m tired, or I’m time crunched, guess what flies out the window – the visit to the gym. With exercise videos I save driving time and prep time, so I have no excuse NOT to exercise. The videos are right there, waiting for me in the next room.
2. Queen of my space.
Some people love it, but I hate the gym. I can’t stand waiting until a sweaty, grunting bodybuilder finishes with a piece of equipment so I can wipe it down and use it. I recoil from the smell of sweat. Running on a treadmill on a beautiful sunny day just doesn’t make sense to me, but neither does running outdoors in an unbearable climate. With exercise videos I exercise in the warm or cool comfort of my home, summer or winter. Exercise videos make me queen of my space. I control the smells, the temperature and the atmosphere.
3. World class instructors.
The gym may offer fun classes, but some instructors are more motivating than others. With exercise videos, I can exercise with Tony Horton, or Chalene Johnson, or any of the world’s best fitness instructors. I’m no longer relegated to mediocre trainers. I can pick and choose from the world’s best.
4. Fun and motivating:
After buying hundreds of videos over the years, I have my favorite videos. If I’m feeling too dragged out to exercise, I choose one of my tried and true videos. I know the music will get me moving, and the instructor will cheer me on.
5. Stress relief!
After a long day at the computer, I can pop in a relaxing or invigorating video, depending on my mood. I can even put on a dance video and get my body moving. No need to get the steps perfect because no one’s judging! I love the fact that I don’t have to think about what to do. I just follow the instructor and do what he/she says. It’s almost like meditating in that my body is moving, and my mind gets a rest.
6. Variety and customizable:
If you exercise at the gym, you have to take the programs they offer. With a variety of exercise videos in my library, I customize my program each day. Some videos really get my heart thumping and my muscles pumping. Others are more relaxing. I can choose weight lifting, circuit training, or Tai Cheng, depending on my mood and energy level.
7. No need to impress.
At the gym, you have to look the part, or at least wear clean, presentable gym clothes. At home, I save the expense of buying a wardrobe of fancy yoga clothes. I can wear any old t-shirt and shorts, because no one sees me. Less pressure, more comfort!
8. No boredom.
Let’s face it, any routine gets boring quickly, especially lifting the same weights over and over again. With exercise videos, any time I get bored, I can jump onto my Team Beachbody account and order a new video or two. I’m always motivated when they arrive, and this keeps me excited for a while. Then I rotate them with old favorites, and when I want to, I order another new one. I also love exploring the newest, hottest techniques, and trying new instructors. With exercise videos, I can preview them and create a library with very little commitment of time and expense.
9. Saves money.
Gym memberships can be expensive. You also need a wardrobe of exercise clothes. Trainers and some classes cost extra. Then you factor in the expense of gas to drive to the gym, the snacks you buy, and perhaps babysitting or child care. Exercise videos are affordable. So even if you buy several per year, it’s way less money than all the expenses associated with going to the gym. And that’s not even counting the reduction in health-related problems you get from exercise!
10. Works with your schedule:
To take exercise classes at the gym, you have to go when the classes are scheduled, which may not always coordinate with your work or family schedule. You may be stuck in traffic, or have to get up extra early to get to a class or secure your favorite machine. With exercise videos, you can exercise in the morning, mid-day, after work – whatever suits your schedule. Or vary the times as you need to. Exercise is individual, and everyone responds to different motivations. The beauty of exercise videos is that you can have variety, fun, and top instructors for little outlay of cash and time. Try rotating a few into your routine when you can’t manage getting to the gym. Or, if you’re a couch potato, this just may be the fun exercise system you can enjoy!
